The 21-year-old has grown to become one of the most important figures in Pep Guardiola’s midfield, and his contributions proved pivotal as Man City battled to reclaim their throne as English champions from Liverpool.

And Foden’s personal contributions have been recognised on an individual level, after it was announced that he has been crowned the Premier League’s young player of the season.

He follows in the footsteps of coach Pep Guardiola, who was voted the Premier League’s manager of the Season, and teammate Ruben Dias, the newly-crowned Premier League player of the season.

The versatile forward scored nine goals and provided five assists in his 28 league appearances for Man City, while performing a whole range of different roles in Guardiola’s system. He starred as a false nine on several occasions, including in a 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool at Anfield.

Foden scored arguably one of his finest goals of the season in that match, collecting the ball on the right, cutting inside and blasting the ball beyond Alisson Becker. He went on to feature in all but five of Man City’s final 15 matches, while playing a key role in their run to the Champions League final.

He scored both home and away in the Champions League quarter-final tie with Borussia Dortmund, and was instrumental in the victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.

The youngster’s commanding displays also brought international recognition, making his senior debut in September 2020, and going on to win a further five caps for the Three Lions.

He is expected to feature heavily for Gareth Southgate’s side in the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament this summer, where he’ll be hoping to end his campaign with glory on the international stage.

Foden has long been expected to flourish for Man City, and the 2020/21 season proved to be the year when we were finally allowed to see just how good he can be on a consistent basis.
